Beginnings
September 3, 2007 by Donna Steinhorn
I’ve always felt that September was really the beginning of the year, rather than January 1st. It was the time that summer ended and the school year began. A time for new clothes, new notebooks, and new friendships. A slew of choices. It’s the time of the Jewish New Year, where you take time to reflect on the year just past, and on the possibilities of the year ahead. And it’s the month of my birthday. So in the truest sense, it is the beginning of a new year for me.
This year, like every year before, I’ll wait until the “summer folk” are gone from the beach and go sit on the boardwalk with my pen and pad and think about what I want for the year. I won’t look back…that’s for another time. Instead, I’ll muse about the choices I have…what I want to change, do, learn and be this year. I’m sure there will be some old favorites…getting in better shape, learning a new tech skill (I’m a closet geek), having more patience (I’ve been working on this one for a while). And of course there will be some new goals, some new challenges, and always for me…a one or more huge visions to play with.
But one choice I’ve already made is that I won’t be doing most of it alone. What I’ve learned over the past few years is that I do extremely well on my own. But when I am working with someone else either as a collaborator, an accountability partner, or just kicking around ideas, I do 100 times more, do 100 times better at whatever it is I am working on, and even more importantly…have a lot more fun!
And working with you as partner in crime for various creative endeavors is a joy, a delight and energizes me too 100 fold.
You never cease to amaze me and blow me away!
